I’m in the process of clearing up my to-do list. There are a few posts that I have been procrastinating on and it is about time I get them out of the way before I forget. One such was the last family trip I did to a Cinnamon Hotel on Staff rates. If I haven’t discussed or mentioned it earlier, well, we are privileged with an absolutely amazing per-head rate when we stay at Cinnamon Hotels. That comes as a privilege of working for the John Keells Group. I don’t know if we are allowed to discuss rates or any other benefits, so I will stop at that. Before leaving John Keells, we wanted to cover all possible Cinnamon Hotels and that is how we ended up having our family trip to celebrate my brother’s birthday, at Cinnamon Lodge.
Pretty easy, No hassle. In the Habarana route itself, if you keep your eyes open, it is right on the main road. There are two hotels of the same group, Cinnamon lodge and Habarana Village. The hotels share resources such as the spa, as I know. Once you enter the main entrance from the road, then the road divides to these two hotels. Pretty easy to figure out where to go, if you have your senses working well.
We received the traditional welcome with the hot towels and a welcome drink, and the check-in process was done faster. The rooms are done in cottage style, two per each cottage (Do we call it cottage style?), and spread around the vast area of the hotel. It is a lot of walking to the room from the main area of the hotel. We had an issue since my mother was suffering from a knee pain, so the staff was happy to change the room for us to fit our needs.
I loved the interior and the amenities. As for extras, the room had flip-flops, Umbrellas and notices wherever possible about monkey attacks. It was quite evident that you are basically living in a kingdom of monkeys, and the safety of your personal belongings are up to you. The rooms have great double balconies, but the monkey rules won’t let you enjoy fresh area breathing in and out of the open balconies.
What can I say. It is such a perfect getaway from the hustle bustle of the city life. Calm, green and soothing enough to just lay on the grass and nap away in the evening. The hotel is gifted with a scenic lake on the side. It is perfect for a relaxing evening walk, or to just unwind while you watch the gorgeous sunset (If not for the electric cables running across the scene).
There are tree houses, little bridges and pathways created everywhere possible. It is no doubt that we heard the hotel has a lot of return guests. (Guests who visits again and again). Mind you, they put extra effort to please these return guests, knowing and accommodating for their what-nots before arrival.
The basics are there, the Pool, a Balinese Spa, and Badminton courts. Other than that, you can sign up for a boat ride in the lake, or join the Elephant Safari in Habarana, Visit Sigiriya or there is a miniature children’s park. Cinnamon Lodge is occupied with a lot of leisure activities, to keep you away from poking your electronics like we would always do.
This is why I should have written this post earlier. I have a memory of a goldfish, and the food category clearly overwrites just after the next meal I guess. I haven’t completely forgotten how the experience was, but by comparison, I think food at Cinnamon Lodge is as good as Hikka Tranz. (That is where I rated as Best Food in Cinnamon Hotels). A good selection of salads, mains & desserts. Lunch didn’t have a lot of variation, but I wish I had an extra tummy for dinner! Really friendly staff in action stations, and friendly service from the service staff too. My brother had his birthday on the same day and we were able to get a cake organized from the hotel. It didn’t just come as a cake. It had a fancy candle, and the cake that came in a trolly. Neat!
I myself would have been a repeat guest in Cinnamon Lodge if I were to stay for long in Sri Lanka. During the time we visited, the hotel was preparing for Avurudu Festival, having their own Avrudu village created adjoining the lake. As we hear, a lot of families do arrive and stay through Avrudu, to celebrate the festivities at the hotel. I loved the hotel stay. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation away from the city, choose here.
Special Thanks to Himahansi Ratnayake, Guest Relations Executive from Cinnamon Lodge, for accommodating every need of us, including the birthday surprise.
